Castro Won’t Challenge Cruz for U.S. Senate Seat
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) can rest easy now. Representative Jaoquin Castro (D-TX) has just announced that he will not be taking on Cruz in the next election.
In what has to be good news for Cruz and the Republican Party, Rep. Castro told Washington Post he made the decision not to challenge Cruz for his seat over the weekend. Castro told his supporters and top donors who has been itching for the match-up the bad news over the weekend according to The Washington Post.
The Texas Democrat said he will instead begin preparing to defend his House seat.
Although Rep. Castro did not completely rule out the possibility of running for the U.S. Senate in the future, he said now is not the right time to do so.
A statewide poll released last month by Texas Lyceum showed Castro beating Cruz 35-31 in a head-to-head matchup while Cruz was tied at 30% with Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), the only person who has so far announced his willingness to challenge Cruz. Read More.
