Experts: Trump’s Explanation for Firing FBI Director Comey is Absurd
President Donald Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director, James Comey raises a lot of questions that require immediate answers.
So far, the president’s explanations have done nothing to quell the uproar that arose as a result of his actions.
Political observers and intelligence experts believe the president’s real reason for the action has to do with FBI’s probing of Trump’s ties to Russia.
“Trump panicked and fired him not because of the lame excuse they came up with but because Comey and the FBI appear to be getting closer to uncovering the truth of what happened between Trump and Russia during the 2016 election,” said one intelligence source with knowledge of what is going on with that investigation. He spoke on the conditions of anonymity so he could speak freely.
According to the White House, President Trump at the urging of Attorney General Jeff Sessions took the action after determining that Comey could no longer effectively carry out his duties.
“Their explanation that the president was bothered by the way he handled Hillary Clinton’s email issues and was no longer fit to direct the FBI on it’s face is so ridiculous that it does not even merit considerations,” our intelligence source continues.
“Why anyone with any modicum of intelligence in the West Wing will expect the rest of us to believe such utter nonsense shocks me. It is stupid. Are they saying that Trump (President Trump) suddenly felt so bad about the way Director Comey treated Hillary Clinton that he felt the need to get rid of Comey? Is this a joke? Who believes such utter nonsense?”
CNN reported that Comey asked the Justice Department for additional resources for the agency’s investigations into Russia’s meddling in the US election and their relationship with Trump’s presidential campaign, a few days before President Trump decided to fire him.
Comey was also reported to have confirmed to the Senate Intelligence Committee last week that he met with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to ask for more Russia probe help.
He also met with Richard Burr (R-NC) and Mark Werner (D-VA), co-chairmen of the Senate Intelligence Committee who urged him to speed up the Russia probe.
But White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee called that reporting false.
“The President has lost confidence in Director Comey and, frankly, he’d been considering letting Director Comey go since the day he was elected,” Sanders told reporters.
She added that President Trump had a conversation with the deputy attorney general earlier in the week after they came to him “and expressed their concerns” about Comey.
Experts believe that as soon as White House realized that Comey was pressing to complete the Russian connection investigation quickly, president Trump panicked and decided his only option to try to slow down the investigation was to fire the FBI Director.
“I believe Trump panicked and decided to get rid of Comey. He then went to the Justice Department and told them to come up with a plausible explanation for the firing. When they could not, Sessions (Attorney General Jeff Sessions) and Rosenstein (Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein) simply concocted this nonsense about the Clinton emails,” our source said.
