DOJ Appoints Special Prosecutor to Probe Trump, Russia
After days of refusing to consider the appointment of a special prosecutor to look into Russia meddling in the 2016 presidential election, the U.S. Justice Department announced earlier today that they are appointing former FBI Director Robert Mueller to oversee the probe.
This is a huge victory for Democrats, Independents and Liberals who have been clamoring for just such appointment by the DOJ.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced the appointment of Mueller to the position in a letter obtained by the news media including CNN.
The letter said Mueller is “authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters,” according to the Justice Department order Rosenstein signed.
