Georgia Special Election Poll : Ossoff Leads Handel by 7 Percent
One month before the Georgia special election, Democrat Jon Ossoff has opened up a seven point lead over Republican Karen Handel, according to a poll released Monday.
The Survey USA poll of voters in Georgia 6th District shows the Democrat leading 51% to 44%. Six percent of voters polled say they are still undecided.
The seven percent lead is outside the 4.3 percent margin of error.
Experts believe that even though special elections, with its notoriously voter low turn, may be difficult to predict, Ossoff’s huge lead indicates that he is in a better position to win the election.
Emory University Political Science professor Andra Gilespie said the race is difficult to call, this recent poll not withstanding.
According to Survey USA, 52% of women favor Ossoff, compared to 43% for Hendel. She is however, favored 52% to 43% by older voters. Minority voters break heavily in favor of the Democrat.
