Progressive Group Slams President Trump’s Proposed Budget
The Congressional Progressive Caucus Tuesday called President Donald Trump’s proposed budget a catastrophe for American workers and families.
A statement released by CPC co-chairs Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), and CPC Member Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) said the proposed cuts to programs that help the poor and needy like Meals on Wheels and Social Security, are reckless
They said the real winners of the budget are company CEOs, defense contractors and big corporations.
“President Trump’s budget is a catastrophe for American workers and families. His reckless cuts to everything from Meals on Wheels, to Social Security and critical job training programs will cause people across the country to lose their livelihoods,” the Congressional Progressive Caucus said.
“The real winners of Trump’s budget are CEOs, defense contractors, and big corporations while seniors, students, teachers, and rural communities lose out.”
“Trump’s budget benefits the wealthy over people aspiring to be in the middle class. He cuts the safety net for working families to give a massive tax break to the wealthy and big corporations and to inflate our military spending by more than $570 billion.
They cautioned that President Trump’s budget will take away health care from those who really need it.
“The Trump Budget will take away health care from millions of elderly and children, leave working families without access to food and cut Social Security for those with disabilities.”
“Americans are facing a pivotal moment: the President has proposed massive cuts to programs that support public schools, affordable health care, clean air and water, and family-sustaining jobs. Together, we must resist this harmful path,” the statement continued.
The group said Americans deserve a budget that promotes our values and priorities.
“Americans deserve a budget that promotes our values and priorities. The People’s Budget: A Roadmap for the Resistance provides the only Democratic alternative to Trump’s budget. It invests in priorities that matter to working families: infrastructure projects that create jobs, education funding to help our kids reach their full potential; and access to affordable health care.”
They urged congressional leaders to oppose the Trump budget because it will harm millions of Americans.
