The City of Manchester, England has announced a plan to honor American singer, Ariana Grande with honorary citizenship. Ms. Grande will become the first person to be so honored if the City Council approves.

This is as a result of her charitable work following the terrorist attacks in Manchester, England last month.

The terrorist attack took place at the Manchester Arena towards the end of Grande’s ‘Dangerous Woman’ tour concert.

The suicide bomber took the lives of 22 concertgoers and injured many more.

Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester concert raised over $3 million dollars for the victims of the attack, after Grande donated over 14,000 tickets to those who had attended the first concert.

Collaborating with numerous famous musicians from Bono to Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, Grande and her fellow musicians lifted the spirits of those attending the sold-out arena and preached the importance of solidarity and love in the face of hatred.

The Manchester City Council leader, Sir Richard Leese expressed his pride on how the citizens came together after the terrorist attack.

“We’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May, with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.”

Sir Leese said that Grande had “exemplified this response” and because of her poise and kindness the city council has decided they need to “update the way we recognize those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city.”

“I think many people would already consider her an honorary Mancunian and we would be delighted, if the council approves the proposal, to make it official,” said Leese.
