Pew Research: Democrats Care About Middle Class, Republicans Too Extreme
While Americans continue to have negative feelings about both political parties, more Republicans now agree that Democrats care more about the middle class than their own party.
According to the results of a Pew Research poll released earlier today, majority of Americans consider the Republican Party “too extreme.”
57% of Americans say the Democrat Party “cares about the middle class” while only 42% say the same about the Republican Party.
While 54% agree with the sentiment that the Republican Party “is too extreme,”45% of those surveyed say the same of Democrats. Those saying the Democrats are extreme have gone up slightly while the number declaring the GOP extreme has remained consistently high over time.
The national survey conducted June 8-18 among 2,504 adults shows that despite the tumult in Washington over the past few months, the overall impression of both political parties and President Donald Trump have not changed significantly.
With his approval rating of 39%, Trump has hovered consistently under 40% on the question of how the president is handling his job while a higher 55% disapprove of the job he is doing.
On the favorability question, 40% view the Republican Party favorably wile 54% view them negatively. For Democrats, the number isn’t much better with 44% favorable and 50% unfavorable.
