President Trump’s friend and former contestant on “The Apprentice” Omarosa Manigault Newman has resigned her position and is leaving the White House next month.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement Wednesday confirming the departure and thanking the presidential aide for her service.

“Omarosa Manigault Newman resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities,” Sanders said. “Her departure will not be effective until January 20, 2018. We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service.”

Omarosa is one of the most high profile African American supporters of President Donald Trump. She leaves office about a year to the day President Trump took office.

“Omarosa felt deeply loyal to this president and that has kept her in that post for longer than she wanted to stay,” one White House source told us Wednesday.

White House officials announced earlier this month that Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell, a driving force behind the Trump administration’s Middle East policy resigned her position and will leave the White House next month as well.

While it is not unusual for officials to resign from the White House in a president’s second year, experts believe more resignations may be coming because the Trump administration has experienced an unusually bruising year.

Omarosa joined the Trump White House as the top communications official at the White House Office of Public Liaison but her role and responsibilities became less defined after current Chief of Staff John Kelly joined the Trump administration prompting observers to believe Omarosa may be leaving sooner rather than later.

White House sources said Omarosa has been reluctant to leave the White House because of her relationship with President Trump. “Omarosa felt deeply loyal to this president and that has kept her in that post for longer than she wanted to stay,” one White House source told us Wednesday.

Omarosa Newman earned about $179,700 per year, the highest recorded salary allowable during her time at the White House.
