Breaking News: Cohen Gets 3 Years Over Hush Money Payments
Donald Trump’s former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen was jailed for three years Wednesday for his role in hush money payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, and for lying to U.S. Congress.
This is breaking news.
Cohen, 52, confessed to lying to Congress about the proposed Trump Tower project in Russia which he earlier denied discussing with then candidate Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.
He pleaded guilty in August of this year to charges brought by federal prosecutors in New York that he helped facilitate the payments of $130,000 to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and $150,000 to former Playboy model McDougal.
‘Trump has said he had no knowledge of the payments before they were made, an assertion that has since been proven false.’
The payments were said to have been made to buy silence from the women during the election which Cohen and Trump initially denied.
Trump has said he had no knowledge of the payments before they were made, an assertion that has since been proven false.
Cohen has also admitted to tax and bank fraud in addition to the hush money payments.
He faces additional sentencing on the separate charge of lying to US Congress brought by independent counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating among other things, possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian authorities during the campaign.
Judge William Pauley’s sentencing in Manhattan caps the unbelievable turn-around by a man who once vowed to take a bullet for Donald Trump.
Cohen is cooperating with special counsel Mueller on the Russia investigation but Trump has denied that any collusion with Russia happened during the 2016 campaign.
